GMA Staffers Meet to Discuss Robin Roberts Treatment

After this morning’s show, “GMA” staffers gathered at the 6th floor offices at ABC News headquarters to discuss Robin Roberts’ treatment for a rare bone marrow disorder. This afternoon, Roberts begins her treatments leading up to a bone marrow transplant later this summer. Her donor is her older sister, WWL-TV anchor Sally-Ann Roberts (right, with Diane Sawyer) who appeared on the show this morning.

ABC’s medical correspondent Dr. Richard Besser answered staffers’ questions about the coming months ahead of, and after, the transplant. Dr. Besser told the team the best thing they can do is treat Roberts as normally as possible. ABC News president Ben Sherwood reassured staffers of Roberts’ place with the show. “This is Robin’s show. That is her chair. When she comes back after her transplant it will be her chair,” a source who attended the meeting quotes Sherwood as saying.

Anne Sweeney, president of Disney-ABC television was also in attendance, we hear.

After the gathering, Roberts announced that she’s ordered the team Popeye’s chicken — her favorite comfort food.
