Retired Admiral James Stavridis has been named chief international security and diplomacy analyst for NBC News and MSNBC. The 30-year Navy veteran will offer analysis for Today, NBC Nightly News, Meet the Press and various MSNBC programs.

“Admiral Stavridis is an outstanding addition to our unparalleled roster of contributors and will be an incredible asset for our two networks as we continue to cover issues of national security,” said NBC News senior vice president in charge of editorial Janelle Rodriguez in a memo to staff announcing the hire.

Admiral Stavridis served as NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander and led operations in Afghanistan, Libya, Syria and the Balkans. He was also a senior military assistant to the Secretary of the Navy and Secretary of Defense.
