Report: Wembley to Host 2013 UEFA Champions Final

Wembley Stadium in London will reportedly be the setting for the 2013 UEFA Champions League Final, a somewhat surprising honor that follows on the heels of hosting this year’s final.

Nigel Currie, director of sports marketing agency, BrandRapport, said he thought UEFA had established a bidding process to host the game, which this year featured Manchester United versus Barcelona.

“They probably decided it would be better for them to make their own decision,” he said.

UEFA will make its decision following an executive committee meeting today.

A senior UEFA official said, ”There is a feeling that the 2013 final should go to England to mark the (Football Association’s) 150th anniversary.

“Initially, it was suggested that Manchester should be chosen, but the success of Wembley last month means it is now very much the favorite.”

The 2012 final will be played in Munich, Germany.
