The debt deal passed through the U.S. House of Representatives not long after 7 Pm ET, and Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was there to cast her vote. Giffords was shot in the head in January in an apparent assassination attempt.

The cable news channels were covering the vote live, and caught the reaction from the floor as Giffords made her unexpected appearance, drawing a standing ovation from everyone in the room.
