Ray D’Alessio Leaving HLN

By Alissa Krinsky

TVNewser confirms HLN’s Ray D’Alessio is leaving the network. He’s heading to Louisville, Kentucky to anchor mornings at WAVE-TV, an NBC affiliate.

The parting of the ways is “on good terms,” an HLN spokesperson tells us.

D’Alessio’s last day on-air will be Super Bowl Sunday, February 1. He joined HLN in 2001, after working at CNN/SI as a sports anchor.

Is D’Alessio’s departure a sign that, as mentioned in today’s Shoptalk, CNN is dismantling its sports unit?

> Update: A CNN spokesperson tells TVNewser: “CNN’s sports unit is not being dismantled, in fact it will be producing more programming in the coming months for CNN International. HLN will continue with its usual sports coverage while CNN/US covers sports when the news warrants it.”
