Ratings Notes: Rachel Maddow, Paula Zahn

By Chris Ariens

• The Rachel Maddow-hosted special “McVeigh Tapes,” airing on the 15th anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing, was MSNBC’s #1 show last night. The two-hour program averaged 1.19M Total Viewers and 435,000 A25-54 viewers. In fact, the second half won the 10pmET hour in the demo — the first time a cable news competitor has topped FNC in that hour since MSNBC did it last August during Sen. Ted Kennedy‘s memorial service.

• Sunday’s return of “On the Case with Paula Zahn” brought Investigation Discovery its highest household delivery ever with 541,000. The 10pmET hour topped cable competitors including CNN and MSNBC. The show was up double digits over its season one debut in October ’09 — 42% in Total Viewers, and 34% in A25-54 viewers. Zahn, a former CBS, FNC, and CNN anchor, has had her show renewed for a third season.
