By Marcus Vanderberg

Thursday’s coverage of the 2011 Masters Tournament on ESPN Thursday averaged 2,550,000 viewers with a 2.1 rating based on fast nationals, according to the Nielsen Company.

Ratings was down sharply from last year’s 4,936,000 viewers and 4.0 national household rating, which featured the return of Tiger Woods.

“What happened last year was an anomaly,” said John Wildhack, ESPN executive vice president, programming acquisition and strategy. “Tiger’s return was not just sports page news, but front page news around the world.”
