Rachel Maddow: Questions From DC Press, Public Are From ‘Two totally different universes’

By Alex Weprin

On her eponymous MSNBC program last night, Rachel Maddow weighed in on the conflict between the White House press corps and the White House over Presidential access. Maddow is sympathetic to the reporters, but also argues that the current White House press are insular, and aren’t asking questions that ordinary Americans want to hear, as evidenced by questions asked of the President and Vice President in town hall meetings and online from regular people.

“It is not journalism, it is not a substitute for journalism, but there’s something important I think to be found in the distance between the types of questions that are being asked by regular folks when they get a chance, and the type of questions that are being asked by the White House press corp when they get their chance.”
