Quijano Named CBS News Correspondent

CBS News has officially announced Elaine Quijano as a correspondent for the network. As we reported in December, left CNN for CBS.

In a press release, CBS News and Sports president Sean McManus announced the news and said, “Her familiarity with politics and foreign affairs coupled with her skills as a beat reporter complement and enhance our outstanding CBS News roster of correspondents.”

Quijano will be reporting for “The Early Show,” “Evening News,” and their corresponding weekend editions.

ELAINE QUIJANO HAS BEEN NAMED CBS NEWS CORRESPONDENT

Elaine Quijano has been named CBS News Correspondent, Sean McManus, President, CBS News and Sports, announced today. In this capacity, Quijano will report for THE EARLY SHOW, CBS EVENING NEWS, weekend editions and contribute across all CBS News platforms. She will be based in New York and her appointment is effective February 1.

“Elaine is a thorough and thoughtful journalist and we are delighted to have her join CBS News,” said McManus. “Her familiarity with politics and foreign affairs coupled with her skills as a beat reporter complement and enhance our outstanding CBS News roster of correspondents.”

Most recently, Quijano was a general assignment correspondent for CNN, based in Washington, DC. For nine years, she provided broad reaching stories from various beats, including the White House, the Pentagon and the Supreme Court. She also covered the administration of President Barack Obama, traveling to Boston to report on the arrest of Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr., and to West Virginia to view a multi-million dollar experiment underway to inject carbon emissions deep underground.

In 2006, Quijano was named White House correspondent for CNN and covered the administration of President George W. Bush. During that time, she reported on the Bush administration’s war on terror and the financial crisis that emerged in the fall of 2008. She also traveled extensively around the world, visiting a host of cities, including Kabul, Afghanistan, Islamabad, Pakistan and Beijing, China. Before being named a White House correspondent, she covered Bush’s 2004 reelection campaign and the campaign of Vice Presidential candidate John Edwards.

Prior to that, Quijano was a correspondent for CNN Newsource, the network’s affiliate service. She was part of Newsource’s round-the-clock coverage of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and reported for their affiliates across the nation. Quijano also traveled to Kuwait City just days before the U.S. launched its invasion of Iraq in 2003 and provided extended onsite coverage.

Previously, Quijano was a general assignment reporter for WFTS-TV in Tampa, Florida. She also worked as a reporter/producer/anchor for WCIA-TV in Champaign, Illinois.

Quijano holds a degree in journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
