Quake Update: Shepard Smith, Bill Weir, BloombergTV

By Chris Ariens

Some late-afternoon Monday notes on earthquake/tsunami coverage:

Shepard Smith anchored today from Tokyo: first “Studio B” at 3pmET and next, Fox Report at 7pmET/8am Tuesday in Tokyo. “Behind me is the rainbow bridge. It is usually lit up in many colors and it is shut down as they work for voluntary energy conservation in the hopes that Tokyo will not have to face the kind of black outs that could be necessary across this nation.”

Friday night he anchored “Nightline” live for both the east and west coasts, from the beach in Santa Monica, CA, where a tsunami advisory had been issued. Tonight ABC’s Bill Weir will be in Sendai, Japan, joining his ABC anchor colleagues Diane Sawyer and David Muir. Weir will host live shows for the U.S. east and west coast: 12:30pm and 3:30pm Tuesday afternoon Japan time.

Bloomberg TV, which was the first network in the U.S. to report the news of the initial earthquake, has 12 reporters/producers in Japan right now. Last night, Bloomberg TV was live in the U.S. at 7ET simulcasting Bloomberg Asia from Hong Kong, as the Asian markets opened.
