Prime Time Specials on the Life and Death of Prince

TV networks are planning specials over the coming days on the life and legacy of music icon Prince, who died earlier today at his home outside Minneapolis.

Tonight at 10 p.m. ET on MSNBC, Brian Williams anchors Prince: Purple Reign. The program will look at Prince’s rise to international fame including interviews with music industry insiders and those who worked with the legendary performer.

BET is also producing a 10 p.m. special. TV One’s Roland Martin hosts a 2-hour special at 8 p.m. ET called Prince Remembered. Guests include Aretha Franklin, Cedric The Entertainer, Shaun Robinson, Michael Bivins, and many more. The special will reair tomorrow morning at 7 a.m.

ABC’s Nightline will devote its show tonight to Prince while Elizabeth Vargas hosts a special 20/20, Prince: Death of a Legend, tomorrow night at 10 p.m. ET.

PurpleRainOWN will reair Oprah Winfrey‘s iconic 1996 interview with Prince Saturday at 8 p.m. ET. It was Prince’s first interview following his iconic name change. Oprah visited Prince’s personal recording studio at Paisley Park outside Minneapolis, where Prince played a few bars of ‘Purple Rain’ for her on his purple piano.

Even the Weather Channel’s Weather Underground got into the spirit honoring the legend by making its rain icons, purple.
