President Obama will deliver an address to the American people on Tuesday, focusing on the crisis in Syria. The President announced the decision while at the G20 Summit in Russia. CNN, MSNBC and Fox News all carried the comments live.
“I will make the best case that I can to the American people, as well as to the international community, for taking necessary and appropriate action,” Obama said, adding that “I intend to address the American people from the White House on Tuesday.”
It is unclear when the President will speak, but the usual time for addresses is around 9 PM ET. Having it on Tuesday also allows the President to avoid going up against ESPN’s “Monday Night Football,” which is one of the most popular programs on TV.
CNN’s Brianna Keilar asked the President if he would still strike Syria, even if Congress did not approve the use of force. He declined to go into details. ABC’s Jon Karl pressed him on the issue, spurring a response from the President. “I’m not going to engage in parlor games as to whether or not this will pass.”
