Plot of Marv Levy Novel Involves Cheating in the Super Bowl

By Cam Martin

Marv Levy led the Buffalo Bills to four straight Super Bowls, all losses, so the Hall of Fame coach knows a thing or two about what it takes to lose the big game. But did an opponent’s cheating lead to any of Buffalo’s four losses?

Levy, 85, is coming out with a novel Sept. 1 called Between the Lies, a fictional account of how the integrity of the Super Bowl is undermined by a win-at-all-costs coach.

”I knew people would ask questions,” Levy told Rick Telander of the Chicago Sun-Times. “But it’s not about refs rigging the game. It’s about, well, what if teams have secret wires in opponents’ locker rooms? What if they listened in to other teams’ signals? What if they did illicit filming?”

Hmm. Now which sartorially challenged head coach does that remind you of?

Levy insists his novel is “complete fiction,” but it seems safe to say he was inspired by certain true events. At any rate, he said he doesn’t believe any of the Bills’ four Super Bowl losses were influenced by cheating.

”I never have suspected or sensed a whiff of cheating in any of our Super Bowls,” he says.
