Piers Morgan — a.k.a. Beers Morgan — From Pub Crawler to CNN Host

By Molly Stark Dean

CNN’s Piers Morgan wrote a piece in the Daily Mail yesterday about his rise from a child whose parents ran a pub from age 5-13 to owning a pub of his own to hosting “Piers Morgan Tonight.” Morgan wrote about the CNN launch party, which was two weeks ago:

“On the night that CNN threw a big party to launch my new American show, “Piers Morgan Tonight,” I took a load of guests down to The Hansom Cab afterwards. It was amusing seeing Dragons’ Den stars Duncan Bannatyne and Peter Jones fighting to get served in my own pub against newsgirls Emily Maitlis and Sophie Raworth.”

The CNN anchor — whose show premieres on January 17 — also wrote about his “CNN presidents, all three of them (Worldwide, International and America), drank real ale and saluted the unique magic of an old-fashioned British pub.”

After the jump, Morgan and ‘Jack Bauer’ walk into a restaurant…

Morgan tried to pick up Vogue creative director Grace Coddington over dinner last Saturday, according to the NY Post’s Page six, but Coddington didn’t  recognize the newly hired CNN host. After dropping some hints, Morgan was remembered.

Morgan told the Post: “Then she remembered. Or pretended to. I didn’t mind because Kiefer Sutherland came over and said he’d come on the show. He gave me the Jack Bauer line, ‘Go kill it, Piers.’ “
