Philippa Holland Named EP of ‘Issues’ on HLN

By Alex Weprin

HLN has named Philippa Holland EP of “Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell.” “Flip,” as she is known to her colleagues, has worked at Turner for 18 years, including as a producer on “Lou Dobbs Tonight” and “In the Arena.”

In a memo to staff, HLN senior VP Bill Galvin cited Holland’s experience as being a natural fit for the position. She will be based in New York

Given the dual-city nature of this show, Flip will be based in NY with Jane, and will work closely with Senior Producer Jennifer Williams, who will continue to oversee daily Atlanta-based production. A sincere ‘thank you’ goes out to Jennifer – or JWill as she is more widely known – who has taken on added responsibilities over the past several months (and rightly points out that she and Flip form a great duo based on nicknames alone!)‬

Galvin’s full memo is after the jump.

I’m excited to announce today that Philippa Cooper Holland is joining HLN as Executive Producer of “Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell.” In her new role, Philippa will lead the effort to tailor the show to Jane’s standout qualities as an accomplished journalist and passionate commentator.‬

‪Aside from a stint at GMA where she “learned so much from Diane Sawyer and Charles Gibson,” Turner has been home to Philippa – or Flip as she is more widely known – for 18 years. She started as an intern in Chicago and more recently held Senior Producer positions for several CNN programs including “Lou Dobbs Tonight” and “In The Arena.” Flip’s experience with show launches and evolving formats, coupled with her strong relationships across the newsgroup and inherent knowledge of production and operations in NY, all converge in this new opportunity.‬

‪Flip has a well-deserved reputation as a “go-to” leader who is “all in” and “knows her stuff” – attributes that fit perfectly with a host and a show team known for being completely engaged and committed. Jane’s relentless reporter instincts and the team’s can-do attitude are equally matched by Flip’s positive and energetic approach. ‬

‪Please join me in welcoming Philippa, who officially steps into her new role today!‬
