Peter Hamby Leaving CNN for Snapchat

Snapchat, the hot photo messaging app, has made its latest hire from the world of TV news, TVNewser has learned.

Peter Hamby, who fronts the CNN Politics HambyCast and is Digital National Political Reporter, is leaving for a leadership position at the 3-year-old startup.

Snapchat recently launched Discover, partnering with news organizations to produce short stories tailored for Snapchat’s users, which are decidedly younger than that of the average TV news viewer.

Hamby will continue as a CNN contributor on air and online through the 2016 elections. “Most of you know that Peter’s passion about politics and social media goes back to his first days at CNN,” writes CNN DC bureau chief Sam Feist in a note to staff. After starting his journalism career at CNN’s the Situation Room, Hamby was named CNN’s South Carolina embed for the 2008 campaign.

“CNN is proud to be one of the first news organizations to partner with Snapchat; and now we’re sharing one of our best and brightest with them. Please join us in congratulating Peter on his new adventure,” Feist writes.
