Pelada Comes to New York

Luke Boughen and Gwendolyn Oxenham wanted to find soccer “away from the bright lights and manufactured fields.” The two former Duke soccer players set off on an adventure, filming the entire process.

The result: The brilliant documentary Pelada.

“Over the past three years, weʼd slept in twenty-five countries, navigated fifteen languages, reversed down two main highways, gotten mugged in Argentina, attacked by a baboon in Kenya, detained in Israel, and reported to the Iranian government.”

They also made a wonderful movie that shined at Sundance and was called “an all-around inspiring doc” by Variety.

Boughen and Oxenham, along with additional directors Rebekah Fergusson and Ryan White will screen the movie at Legends Bar and Restaurant in New York on September 21. (Tickets here.) If you can’t make it to New York, check out the other screenings. Then go find a pickup game.
