‘Peacock Lounge’ Part of 30 Rock Upgrades

By Chris Ariens

30RockefellerCenterComcast is looking beyond the top of the rock — it plans to replace the neon GE logo with the NBC peacock — to the inside of the art deco building. 30 Rock is about to get a comprehensive upgrade which will restore much of the original 1930s design of the NBC portion of the lobby.

The plans include the re-creation of a sweeping 16-foot-wide marble staircase, the re-creation of the Mezzanine Rotunda, and the creation of the Peacock Lounge, which will serve as a waiting area for audiences for “Saturday Night Live,” “The Tonight Show,” “Late Night,” and “The Meredith Vieira Show.”

The multi-year project will culminate in three new production control rooms for those three shows that, when completed, will play a starring role in the NBC Tour. The glass walls will provide visitors with an insider’s view of the technologies – and technicians – that go into producing the shows.
