We told you in January the mayor of Paris vowed to sue Fox News for “insulting” the honor of the French capital with reports — for which Fox apologized — that suggested there were “no-go zones” in parts of Paris.
At the time, a Fox executive, Michael Clemente, released a statement saying “we find the Mayor’s comments regarding a lawsuit misplaced.” Fox News Channel host Bill O’Reilly went further, saying “(the) suit’s going nowhere. It’s ridiculous.”
Well, today the Paris City Council backed Mayor Anne Hidalgo‘s decision to sue.
Fox’s response: “The decision by the City of Paris to bring legal proceedings against a United States news organization is antithetical to free speech. FOX News will invoke every protection afforded it under all applicable laws,”says Dori Ann Hanswirth, outside counsel who is representing FOX News in this matter.
