Some ratings notes from primetime Monday night: the second part of Bill O’Reilly’s interview with President Obama delivered strong numbers for Fox News, while MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” and “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” won their respective timeslots among younger viewers.
As usual, “The O’Reilly Factor” was the top-rated cable news program for the night, delivering 4,204,000 viewers and 626,000 A25-54 viewers. Fox News more than tripled the combined ratings of CNN and MSNBC in total viewers during the 8pmET hour, delivering its best performance since the week of the Boston Marathon bombing.
That said, it was also a good night for MSNBC, which continued its coverage of the Chris Christie scandal throughout primetime. The network won in the demo at 7pmET, 9pmET and 10pmET. “Hardball with Chris Matthews” beat “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren” by +31,000 A25-54 viewers.
