Only ‘World News Tonight’ Sees Growth in Viewers and Demo For 2013-2014 Season

While all three network newscasts can celebrate audience growth in the just-completed 2013-2014 season, only “World News Tonight with David Muir” has seen growth among both total viewers and the preferred news demo of Adult 25-54 viewers.

Compared to the 2012-2013 season, “World News Tonight,” which spent most of the season as “World News with Diane Sawyer,” grew +4% in viewers and +5% in the demo.

“Nightly News with Brian Williams” saw the most viewership growth: up +6%, but was down the most in the demo: -3%. “CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley,” which saw an executive producer change in the spring, was up +5% in viewers and down -2% in the demo.

“Nightly News” won the season in both total viewers and the demo, though “World News,” took the demo in the second half of the season, winning both Q2 and Q3.
