It all started in an Oval Office meeting Thursday when President Trump was quoted as saying, “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” referring to immigrants from countries like Haiti and El Salvador and from Africa.
This morning he tried to backtrack. But Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin, who was in the meeting, doubled down saying Trump not only said that, he used those words repeatedly. Not long after the first reports hit the Washington Post, after 5 p.m., cable news went into overdrive covering shithole-gate. Some anchors have used the word (some have used it a lot) while others have steered clear.
The editors at Vice have been busy today piecing together just about every “shithole” heard on cable TV in the last 24 hours.
