Obama: ‘I’ve Had to Make Statements Like This Too Many Times’

All the broadcast networks and cable news and business networks broke into programming around 12:20 p.m. ET to carry remarks from Pres. Obama regarding the massacre at Emanuel AME church last night. The president said he and Michelle Obama know several members of Mother Emanuel including Pastor Clementa Pinckney, who is also a South Carolina State Senator, and who was among the 9 killed inside the church.

“I am constrained in talking about the details of the case,” Obama said, adding, “I don’t need to be constrained about the emotions tragedies like this have raised. I’ve had to make statements like this too many times. Communities like this have endured tragedies like this too many times.”
