Norah O’Donnell: White House Correspondents Are ‘The Very Best Journalists in American History’

Newly-minted CBS News chief White House correspondent Norah O’Donnell is profiled in the latest issue of Capitol File magazine, and the veteran political reporter, who left NBC for CBS in June, talks candidly about her past and her future. “I wouldn’t be the journalist I am today if it wasn’t for that experience,” she said of her 12 years at NBC. O’Donnell also shared her thoughts on holding the prestigious chief White House correspondent title as a woman:

Not many heels have stepped in to the role of chief White House correspondent, a male-dominated post that has historically led to network anchor-dom. Cognizant of her potential path, O’Donnell has embraced the opportunity to make her mark on the political media sphere. “Brian Williams had that job, Dan Rather held that job,” she says. “The people who have been chief White House correspondents are legendary and the very best journalists in American history. And, so, that was really decisive for me.”
