Nightly EP: ‘Our Viewers Were Looking for Information, and Ways They Could Help’

By Chris Ariens

NBC Nightly News EP Bob Epstein sent a note to his staff today thanking them for their hard work covering the earthquake.

“Our coverage from Haiti has produced some of the finest journalism ever seen on this broadcast. From the moment our first teams went in — Kerry Sanders leading the way from Miami — and our Nightly team of Brian Williams, Subrata De, Madeleine Haeringer, Craig White, Aaron Sasson — as well as Ann Curry, Al Roker, Lester Holt, and all the other producers, correpondents, camera crews and technicans — we had this story covered like no other…”

As I mentioned on the conference call this morning, this has been a remarkable period for everyone at Nightly News and throughout the organization.

Our coverage from Haiti has produced some of the finest journalism ever seen on this broadcast. From the moment our first teams went in–Kerry Sanders leading the way from Miami–and our Nightly team of Brian Williams, Subrata De, Madeleine Haeringer, Craig White, Aaron Sasson–as well as Ann Curry, Al Roker, Lester Holt, and all the other producers, correpondents, camera crews and technicans–we had this story covered like no other, and we could not have done without the coordination of David Verdi, Danny Noa, Naomi Karam and everyone on the desk and in Miami and Atlanta, and the remarkable leadership and organization of ML Flynn.

Our viewers were looking for information, and ways they could help — and as the ratings today showed — they turned for that information to us, on-air and online.

If you haven’t seen it, I’ve attached the release that went out a few minutes ago.

Thank you all.

Bob
