‘Nightline’ Up 35% Year-over-Year

By Chris Ariens

For the ninth consecutive week ABC’s “Nightline” beat NBC’s “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” in Total Viewers. It’s the first time in 14 years “Nightline” has topped “Tonight” nine weeks in a row in Total Viewers. Conan, in repeats last week, had the lowest Total Viewer average since at least the 1991/1992 season, as far back as Nielsen records are kept.

In Total Viewers, “Nightline” is up 35% year-over-year — quite an accomplishment considering coverage of the presidential election this time last year. (However, last summer’s Beijing Olympics sent viewers to NBC, even in late night.) Among A25-54 viewers “Nightline” is up 22% year-over-year.

Show Network A25-54 Total Viewers
Late Show CBS 1.37M 3.41M
Nightline ABC 1.34M 3.36M
Tonight Show NBC 1.38M 2.47M
