Next Generation Networks

By Kirsten Cluthe

While Chris and Steve were busy covering Alexis, Joe and Mika this morning, I had the chance to chat with the group of TV execs who will take the stage next Tuesday afternoon to talk about what the networks are doing to engage the next generation. Paul Slavin, Jeff Misenti, Dan Farber, Jonathan Shar, and Joel Schwartzberg are focused on new ideas for the next generation – what is working, what is not, and what can they learn from their audience?

As ABC News’s Paul Slavin pointed out, they are constantly learning. Each new platform that is released causes the audience to segment, which will ultimately affect how content is developed. It is a constant reinforcement that you need to know your audience, he said.

Today’s conversation will carry on at the Summit, and touch on how TV news executives are developing new tactics for audience development, approaching revenue and monetization, and where the opportunities lie within the big media companies, both online and off.
