Newsmagazines Dominate Saturday Night on Broadcast TV

2020SaturdayThe news divisions of the big three broadcasters dominated prime time last night. “20/20” at 10pmET/PT was the night’s No. 1 show drawing 5.51 million viewers, and a 1.1 A18-49 rating, more than doubling CBS’s “48 Hours” in viewers and in the demo. The CBS newsmag was delayed by 30 minutes due to sports overrun, so the overnight numbers are based on viewing from 10:30-11pmET/9:30-10pmCT.

“20/20” featured a Barbara Walters and Brian Ross exclusive investigation of the mystery of Paul Fronczak, the Chicago baby stolen almost 50 years ago.

Now in its second week, “Dateline’s” return to Saturday night gave NBC a win from 8-10pmET/PT. The 2-hour “Dateline” was the No. 2 show of the night drawing 5.35 million viewers, and a 0.8 in the A18-49 demo.

“Nightline Prime,” which debuted in the 9pmET/PT timeslot on ABC drew 3.07 million viewers. That’s ABC’s biggest audience in the time period since Dec. 28, 2013.

On Friday, “20/20” drew 7.13 million viewers, No. 2 in the 10pmET/PT timeslot in viewers, and No.1 in the A18-49 demo.. “Dateline” drew 6.39 million, No. 2 in its 8pmET/PT timeslot.
