Newsgathering Reorg at NBC News

By Chris Ariens

Exclusive: Insiders tell TVNewser the current NBC News global news gathering system is in for an overhaul. Sources tell us a 9amET conference call among News division execs and the bureau managers will announce that the current system will be replaced with regional hubs covering large areas of the U.S. and, in some cases, the world.

Chicago will fall under the New York hub, while Dallas will fall under the Los Angeles Atlanta hub. Current manager of foreign news Danny Noa is expected to move to Atlanta to manage that hub which will be responsible for news gathering in the Southeast U.S. as well as the Caribbean and Latin America.

Sources tell us the D.C. bureau, managed by Tim Russert, is unaffected. What is not known is what becomes of the London bureau, which covers Europe the Middle East and Africa.

The NBC shift is not unlike what ABC News experienced over the summer. What’s not known is whether any jobs will be lost in the NBC overhaul.
