NBC’s Brian Williams will receive the 2011 Broadcaster of the Year award from the New York State Broadcasters Association. “Inside Edition” anchor Deborah Norville will also be honored with the Carol M. Reilly award for female excellence, leadership and professionalism.
Williams has been the anchor and managing editor of “Nightly News” since 2004. In his time at the helm, the NBC program has been dominant in the evening news ratings, consistently beating competing broadcasts on CBS and ABC.
“Brian Williams isn’t just a face and voice reporting the news,” said NYSBA
president Joseph Reilly. “He is an example of how to be a true news
reporter — get in there, get dirty, get the facts and tell the stories that
matter.”
Norville’s broadcast TV career spanned several networks, including CBS and NBC, before she landed on “Inside Editon” in 1996. She will receive the award named for Reilly’s wife, who died of cancer in 2000.
“She really represents what the Carol M. Reilly Award is all about,” Reilly said. “My wife would be very pleased that the NYSBA selected Deborah for this honor.”
Both awards will be presented on June 27 at the NYSBA Executive Conference.
