New Gingrich Says NBC Should Apologize to His Wife, While the Network Stands By Its Reporting

By Alex Weprin

An unexpected feud is brewing between Republican Presidential contender Newt Gingrich and NBC News. NBC News reported that one of the reasons Gingrich’s staff all left his campaign was because of the actions of his wife, Callista Gingrich.

Gingrich appeared on Fox News, where he demanded NBC apologize to Callista. NBC, however, did not share that view as The Cutline reports:

“This is misplaced anger,” Chuck Todd, NBC’s political director, said on Friday. “Nobody should be surprised when a candidate stands up for their spouse. That said, his anger probably should be at his aides because all of the reporting on this has been about how Newt Gingrich was allowing his personal issues–whether it was actions by his wife, actions by his production company–somehow be prioritized over the presidential campaign. That’s why these folks left.”
