Networks Go Live Sunday Evening As President Announces Debt Deal

The last time President Obama spoke late on a Sunday evening back in May, he came bearing important news about foreign policy. Tonight, he had some important news about the economy. Democratic and Republican lawmakers brokered a deal to raise the debt ceiling in exchange for spending cuts.

The big three broadcast networks interrupted their normal Sunday evening program just after 8:40 PM ET to cover President Obama’s comments on the deal. Russ Mitchell anchored for CBS, George Stephanopoulos for ABC, and Brian Williams–who was already in 30 Rock for “Nightly” and the “Inside Congress” special–anchored for NBC:

As you would expect the three general cable news channels also took the comments live after an afternoon and evening of special coverage:

Among the business networks, Bloomberg and Fox Business Network carried the statement live. Oddly, cable business leader CNBC stayed in tape:
