As they have for the last 14 years, New York’s local TV stations are planning several hours of live coverage Sunday morning to mark the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. This means the Sunday public affairs shows will be pre-empted, delayed or shifted to secondary channels, in the nation’s No. 1 market. Meanwhile, the cable and broadcast networks are planning special coverage as well:
NBC:
At 8:45 am, NBC News will offer a Special Report to mark the time of the first attack—anchored by Willie Geist, including the events at the 9/11 Memorial in New York and the White House. Geist will anchor Sunday Today with additional coverage. Meet the Press with Chuck Todd will take the moment of silence at the top of the program and feature interviews with Homeland Security Sec. Jeh Johnson and former Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz. Rehema Ellis will report for “NBC Nightly News” on the day’s events.
ABC:
Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos anchors special reports as well as This Week. Correspondent David Wright will report from Ground Zero along with former NYPD Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, now an ABC contributor.
CBS:
Martha Teichner has a 9/11 remembrance story on CBS Sunday Morning followed by Face the Nation hosted by John Dickerson with special guest CIA Director John Brennan.
MSNBC:
Special coverage begins tonight at 10 p.m. ET with the airing of 3 documentaries. Then, as it has done for many years, beginning at 8:53 a.m. until Noon Sunday, MSNBC will broadcast the Sept. 11, 2001 edition of the Today show.
Fox News:
Steve Doocy, Ainsley Earhardt and Brian Kilmeade will host Sunday’s Fox and Friends which will include the annual Flashback 9/11: As It Happened package, as well as take the first moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. ET. Jon Scott picks up coverage at 10 a.m. followed by a special edition of Maria Bartiromo‘s Sunday Morning Futures at Noon. Coverage continues into the afternoon and Howard Kurtz‘s MediaBuzz will air at 5 p.m. ET.
CNN:
Inside Politics and State of the Union with Jake Tapper will carry the live remembrances from New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. For the first time, CNN has the rights to the documentary film, 9/11, which aired for many years on CBS. An updated version features a forward from Denis Leary.
