NCAA Tournament Games Offered For Free On iPad, iPhone

For the first time ever, every NCAA March Madness game will be available as a free live stream on Apple’s iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices, Turner Sports and CBS Sports announced on Wednesday.

Last year, the NCAA Tournament was available on the iPhone and iPod touch for $9.95. Also available this year are free streams of the tournament internationally.

“We want people using the product with these companion views while they’re watching it on TV,” said Michael Adamson, a vice president at Turner Broadcasting. “If that’s the case, that’s a success in our minds, because that’s a good consumer experience and a larger aggregate audience as a result.”

If you’re stuck at the office during the tournament, March Madness on Demand will remain free with additional new features. The broadband version will be streamed in Adobe’s Flash as opposed to the Microsoft Silverlight player.

In addition, the new layout will allow users to find the games they want to watch, stream live stats along with the game and implement multiple social networks for viewers to share scores and highlights with friends.
