NBCU’s New Jersey Moves

By Guest

A trade-off is in the works for hundreds of NBC employees. Many will give up the energy, bustle and restuarant-friendliness of Manhattan and move to what amounts to an office park in Northern New Jersey. NBC execs are going the extra mile to make sure employees relocating to Englewood Cliffs are kept happy.

TVNewser has seen an internal email from Beth Comstock, President of NBCU Integrated Media. The email outlines the changes coming to the two-building campus now dominated by CNBC. It will grow from 700 employees to “more than 1000.” People currently working for divisions including iVillage, the TV Stations group, and NBC Weather Plus will make the move.

It’s all part of NBC’s 2.0 initiative, which includes a reverse commute of sorts for employees of MSNBC and NBC News from New Jersey to NBC’s headquarters at 30 Rock. Both moves will begin this fall, and “are expected to be complete by end of Q1 2008.”

So, how’s this for a sales pitch: “new workstations offer an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional office furniture, NBCU employees have access to priority childcare, (and) 18 new mini-buses will be added to the existing shuttle fleet.”
