NBC’s ‘Today’ Secures Jerry Sandusky Interview For Monday

By Alex Weprin

Former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky–who was convicted of 45 counts of child sex abuse last year–is speaking out for the first time since the conviction. Sandusky will be appearing on NBC’s “Today” show Monday, where “he will explain in his own words what he says happened on the Penn State campus,” Matt Lauer said on the program today.

Sandusky was interviewed in prison. Leading up to his trial he only granted one interview to a TV outlet, and that was to NBC’s Bob Costas, over the phone on “Rock Center.”

That interview was damning to Sandusky, and resulted in Costas being heaped with praise, even as it became extremely controversial later on when it was revealed that some other damning responses had been left on the cutting room floor.
