NBC’s Peacock Productions Pays For Interview with Reeva Steenkamp’s Mother

steenkamp today interviewNBC’s London-based production unit Peacock Productions UK has agreed to pay the family of Reeva Steenkamp, the woman who was shot and killed by Oscar Pistorius, “a very modest licensing fee” for a series of interviews.

June Steenkamp, Reeva’s mother, appeared exclusively on “Today” Tuesday.

“Peacock Productions UK is making three separate documentaries about the Steenkamp family for various outside clients. As is normal, they have paid a very modest licensing fee for materials they will access,” an NBC News spokesperson tells TVNewser.

Peacock Productions was launched in 2007 and the London-based Peacock Productions UK was launched last year. NBC News president Deborah Turness has oversight of the long-form unit.

An ABC News spokesperson says the network declined to pursue an interview with Steenkamp after the family requested payment. ABC News denounced the practice of licensing fees in exchage for interviews in 2011.
