NBC’s Capus Tells Staff No More Luger Death Video

By Chris Ariens

NBC News president Steve Capus has ordered that the video of the crash of Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili no longer be shown on NBC News and MSNBC programs, without his permission.

It’s a policy also apparently adopted by NBC Sports as well. Last night, before introducing a report from NBC’s Peter Alexander on the investigation into the crash, Bob Costas announced, “We will not play the video of this fatal run, nor will we play it again during these Olympics.”

An NBC News spokesperson tells TVNewser, “NBC News handled the video of the luge accident with the utmost sensitivity. As we have done in the past, we felt the story had reached a point where it was no longer necessary to show the video when reporting on this tragic story.”
