NBC/MSNBC Plans for Michael Jackson Memorial

NBC will televise Michael Jackson’s memorial service on Tuesday. Details are not finalized about who will anchor. As we mentioned yesterday on Twitter, NBC New LA correspondent Chris Jansing will anchor MSNBC’s live coverage of the memorial service.

> Update: Brian Williams will anchor the service and NBC Nightly News from Los Angeles Tuesday.

> Update (2): Meredith Vieira will broadcast live from the Staples Center tomorrow morning for “Today.” Vieira will attend the service and co-anchor the show from LA Wednesday morning.

NBC TO BROADCAST LIVE COVERAGE OF MICHAEL JACKSON’S MEMORIAL SERVICES BEGINNING AT 1 PM ET,
ANCHORED BY BRIAN WILLIAMS

New York, N.Y, July 5, 2009 – To follow are NBC News and MSNBC coverage plans for Michael Jackson’s Memorial taking place tomorrow in Los Angeles.

Monday, July 6

“Dateline” at 10pm: The latest updates on Michael Jackson’s memorial service and funeral arrangements, plus the making of the “Thriller” music video.

Tuesday, July 7

In a special split edition of “Today,” Meredith Vieira will broadcast live from the Staples Center. Vieira will also attend the memorial service.

Live coverage of the services anchored by Brian Williams live from the Staples Center beginning at 1 pm ET/10 AM PT.

MSNBC will present live coverage of the Jackson memorial beginning at 11 a.m. ET, with Chris Jansing anchoring live on site in Los Angeles, and Tamron Hall and David Shuster anchoring from MSNBC Headquarters in New York.

“Nightly News with Brian Williams” live from Los Angeles (6:30 PM ET)

“Dateline” at 10 pm: Lester Holt anchors a special edition of “Dateline” with recaps from the memorial service and reactions from fans of the King of Pop.

Wednesday, July 8

In a special split edition of “Today,” Meredith Vieira will broadcast live from Los Angeles and interview insiders who were involved with the memorial service.

Additionally:

CNBC’s Jane Wells will be covering the business angle of Michael Jackson’s passing.

Msnbc.com will be live streaming the memorial services and will also reflect the conversation online, particularly on Twitter, through hashtags #MJ and #msnbc or #nbc.
