NBC Weather Guy Jeff Ranieri Moves West

By Chris Ariens

TVNewser has learned Jeff Ranieri, one of the original meteorologists for the now-defunct NBC Weather Plus, is leaving NBC’s New York headquarters and has joined NBC’s San Francisco/San Jose station KNTV.

Ranieri had been anchoring weather for MSNBC and the Today show as well as field reporting from big weather stories. Weather Plus was shuttered in December after NBCU’s $3.5 billion acquisition of the Weather Channel last year.

Launched in 2004, the original Weather Plus meteorologists included Ranieri, Bill Karins, Elise Finch and Jackie Meretsky. Karins is the only original member still working for NBC News.

Ranieri’s Facebook status, updated around 8am this morning reads, “Let the new adventure begin!”
