Eric Wishnie, an award-winning producer at NBC News died this morning after being found badly injured on the street outside his home. A police source tells WNBC’s Tim Minton, “detectives now believe Wishnie fell off the roof of his apartment building, 50 feet above street level.”
Police initially suspected Wishnie was the victim of a hit-and-run driver, but later “called off a search for any such motorist.” Police do not believe foul play was involved. Wishnie was married to NBC News correspondent Dawn Fratangelo. TVNewser has received several emails, from people inside NBC and from its competitors, expressing their sadness at hearing the news. One emailer called Wishnie “a beloved producer on Nightly News.”
On a personal note, I was fortunate to have worked alongside Eric several times (two Olympics and the occasional political event.) He was kind and generous, an incredible talent, who always took time to praise others’ work. He was someone I looked up to, the type of producer I aspired to be.
