NBC News Radio Expands, Replaces CNN Radio Nationwide

By Chris Ariens

In an deal announced today with leading radio distributor Dial Global, NBC News will expand its radio offerings from 18 hourly reports each weekday to top and bottom of the hour updates, 24/7.

NBC News Radio will also now be distributed to radio stations reaching 225 million people nationwide. These stations can now offer live simulcasts of breaking news from NBC and MSNBC, and reports from top NBC News correspondents as well as “Nightly News” anchor Brian Williams, anchor and managing editor of “NBC Nightly News” and “Meet the Press” moderator David Gregory.

With this new NBC deal, Dial Global, which merged with Westwood One last fall, is dropping distribution of CNN Radio. CNN says it will end radio production April 1, but “will continue to create original audio news content for distribution channels including CNN Newsource, the CNN Wire, and CNN.com,” a spokesperson says. As a result, the CNN spokesperson tells TVNewser, some jobs may be cut. Six CNN Radio correspondents will remain on staff and radio programming will continue to be distributed internationally.
