NBC News Nabs First Interview with Sean Goldman, Two Years After His Return to the U.S.

Eleven-year-old Sean Goldman, the subject of an international custody battle which ended in 2009, will speak out for the first time since his return to the U.S. NBC’s Meredith Vieira interviewed Goldman for a story airing Friday.

Goldman’s Brazilian mother abruptly cut off communication with his father, David, when he was four. His mother died four years later, sparking a legal custody battle between David Goldman and the child’s Brazilian family.

When David Goldman was granted custody of his son in 2009, the pair returned to the U.S. on a private jet chartered by NBC News (pictured). Jeff Rossen, who covered the case for NBC from Rio, flew back with them and interviewed David during the flight. Vieira conducted a more extensive interview with David the following week.
