NBC Universal Brings Out the Big Guns For NFL Kickoff

NBC Universal plans to leverage all of its networks and shows to promote its coverage of the 2010 NFL season kickoff between the New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings in New Orleans.

NBC’s “Today” and “NBC Nightly News will be live on-site in the city, with “Access Hollywood,” Weather Channel’s “Wake up With Al,” MSNBC and CNBC all delivering live reports from around New Orleans.

Other programs will have football content as well, including “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” and “Minute to Win It,” which will have an episode where the contestants are all former players.

There will also be a “back to football” parade through the French Quarter, which will feature performances from Dave Matthews Band and Taylor Swift.

“For so many fans, the start of football season is always special. We are working closely with the NFL to build upon the momentum when our country gets “Back to Football,” said Mike McCarley, Senior Vice President, Strategic Marketing, NBC Sports and Olympics. “The celebration in New Orleans is expected to have unique resonance this year as the Saints’ Super Bowl victory, was very special for Saints fans across the country and especially for those here in the Gulf region.”
