Sorry Jay Leno and Jimmy Fallon, NBC News will be taking over late night on November 2.
NBC and MSNBC already announced their election coverage earlier this week, but today the broadcast network announced that it would be preempting its late night shows and adding an additional four hours of election programming, from 11:35 PM ET to 3:30 AM ET.
As previously reported, elections will be covered during “NBC Nightly News” at 6:30 PM, and then on a special report from 9-11 PM. After a half-hour break for local news, the NBC News team will come back on the air, taking over the slots normally filled by “The Tonight Show” and “Late Night.”
“We’re going to be going late into the night because that’s when the story will fully unfold, said Mark Lukasiewicz, NBC News VP of Specials and Digital Media and executive producer of NBC’s Decision 2010 coverage in a statement. “We have the most talented and experienced political team — and now we’ll have this unprecedented time — to give our viewers the best possible coverage.”
