NBC Dropping Hillary Clinton Miniseries

The same day that CNN confirmed that its documentary about former First Lady, Senator and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton would not be moving forward, NBC says it too is canceling its plans for a scripted miniseries about her life.

“After reviewing and prioritizing our slate of movie/mini-series development, we’ve decided that we will no longer continue developing the Hillary Clinton mini-series,” NBC said in a statement.

The miniseries was slated to air next year, with Diane Lane starring as Clinton. NBC was in advanced negotiations with Fox TV Studios to produce the series, but after those talks fell through, its future was up in the air.

The Clinton miniseries and film were the impetus behind an RNC effort to lock out CNN and NBC from hosting any 2016 GOP primary debates. The RNC voted to block those networks from hosting debates back in August, citing “an obvious bias.”

The RNC’s plan is to limit and control the number of 2016 debates. While both CNN and NBC insist that the RNC had no impact on their decisions, the organization will nonetheless be getting its preferred outcome.

Now the question becomes what the RNC’s preferred 2016 debate plan is, and whether CNN or NBC will be included.
