NBC and CBS Snag DuPont Awards for Tornado, Newtown Coverage

NBC News and CBS News both earned Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Awards today for breaking news coverage.

NBC News wins for its “Devastation in Oklahoma” that aired on Dateline and Nightly News in the wake of the massive tornado that hit Moore, Oklahoma.

CBS News get an award for its coverage round the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. This coverage included an inaccurate report from CBS and other networks on gunman Adam Lanza’s mother being a teacher at the school, which CBS  acknowledged they got wrong.

A number of local TV stations and a partnership between Univision News and the Center for Investigative Journalism also won awards. The full list of winners here.
