Television geeks everywhere are waiting for the highly anticipated Google TV.

But what’s in it for sports fans?

The new device, which merges the Internet with your television viewing, has lacked the big-name television and sports partners.

Currently the NBA is the only sports league that has signed on for an app, just in time for the upcoming season.

The NBA Game Time application for Google TV will allow fans to follow NBA games in progress with a real-time scoreboard, watch on-demand video highlights optimized for an HD viewing experience, and check the latest league standings and statistics.

“We are excited to be among the select group of companies with pre-installed apps for the highly anticipated launch of Google TV,” said Bryan Perez, senior vice president and general manager for NBA Digital. “With our commitment to multi-platform innovation and distribution, it’s only natural for us to be among the first to partner with Google TV on such a ground-breaking platform.”

There are only two ways to get your hands on Google TV – through a Logitech set-top box and a new Sony TV – which are expected in stores later this month.
