MSNBC’s Mark Effron Steps Down

By Brian

After four years as MSNBC vice president of daytime programming, Mark Effron is stepping down. In a memo to staffers this morning, he wrote: “Four years is a long time in this position, and with my contract ending, a number of potential opportunities have come my way. Therefore, I’ll be stepping down.” The full memo is after the jump…

Subject: Thanks for Everything

Four years ago, I came to MSNBC to strengthen our daytime programming. Through all of your collective hard and creative work, we did just that: garnering praise for our many journalistic accomplishments together–from our award-winning war coverage through the summers of hurricanes culminating in Katrina, and everything in between. Together, we expanded our programming on weekends, and brought intelligence and aggressiveness to the daily parade. We created new broadcasts and revitalized older ones. And by we, I really do mean everyone who works at MSNBC: Newsforce, of course, but also all of my friends throughout the building: In Tech Ops, our directing staff, our marketing and promotion teams, our press group, our research friends, interactive, finance, graphic design, HR, and of course our colleagues on the Net Desk and in Prime Time, who we work so closely with. In this ultimate team effort, all of you contribute to what we are achieving.

Four years is a long time in this position, and with my contract ending, a number of potential opportunities have come my way. Therefore, I’ll be stepping down. I can promise you that the transition will be smooth and seamless. I’ll continue to have a phone number here at MSNBC until the beginning of June, and will have access to my MSNBC e-mail address until then, though the best way to reach me is [redacted].

As I move into my next challenge, I will never forget the tremendous heart and humanity that you put in your work each day, and will always be grateful to you for making my time here so full and rewarding. My best to all of you as you continue to do great work and get the recognition that you all so justly deserve.

Mark
