MSNBC will cover the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination with special primetime programming on Friday, November 22. Chris Matthews will host both the 7pmET and the 8pmET hours: the first hour, a special originally produced for the 40th anniversary of the assassination, will feature interviews with politicians and writers about their memories of the day JFK was shot. The second hour will include interviews with Kennedy family members and insiders including Kathleen Kennedy Townsend.
At 9pmET, Al Sharpton will host “50 Years of Guns,” a documentary about guns in America. At 10pmET, Alec Baldwin will host a special edition of “Up Late” that will examine the mysteries and questions surrounding JFK’s death.

October 30, 2013 – New York, NY – MSNBC will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy with an evening of special programming on Friday, November 22. Beginning at 7 p.m. ET, each hour will delve into a different aspect of JFK’s life and legacy.
Chris Matthews hosts “JFK: The Day That Changed America” at 7p.m. ET. This hour, originally produced for the 40th anniversary, features exclusive interviews with Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, JFK speechwriter and trusted aide Theodore Sorensen, Senators John Kerry and John McCain, “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno, writers Gore Vidal and William F. Buckley and many others as they reflect on where they were on that fateful day and how the event shaped the country.
The second hour, “Kennedy Brothers: A Hardball Documentary” (8p.m. ET), takes viewers inside the Kennedy legacy and deconstructs the myth and legend surrounding this quintessential American family. Throughout the hour, Matthews sits down with key Kennedy insiders, including Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Frank Mankiewicz, biographer Peter Canellos, and presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, to gain insight into the family and what drove three of the brothers to seek the nation’s highest office. At 9 p.m. MSNBC will premiere “50 Years of Guns” hosted by PoliticsNation’s Rev. Al Sharpton. This documentary looks at guns in America five decades after President Kennedy was taken by an assassin’s bullet. Sharpton travels around the U.S. to talk with people on different sides of the debate including Second Amendment advocates and victims of gun violence. Examining the issues, Reverend Sharpton shares his own personal narrative in an effort to find solutions to one of the most enduring sources of conflict in the country.
